Last week, someone posted a question on Twitter asking why I wasn't doing a session on social media/social computing at SolidWorks World 2009. Now as far as I know, everything at SWW except for the general sessions are 100% technical, I and I really wonder if anyone would really be interested in attending something like this. If I were to try for something, it would probably be an overview of some of the different spaces out there, and an explanation of how each can help the average SolidWorks user be more productive in his/her job.
So tell me, is this something you'd be interested in attending, or something your coworkers might be interested in? (Matt Lombard noted that I may be reaching to the converted somewhat by posting this question on a blog.) If I get enough positive responses, I'll look into setting something up.
Shouldn't have told me you were an English major, now I'll be proofreading your posts. That's "preaching" not "reaching".
Anyway, I think it's a great idea. I've seen presentations on how to make the best use of the customer portal, and I think this fits perfectly in that vein. We do a lot of user group stuff that is not directly related to the software. If nowhere else, you should share SWUGN time with Doyle, but there is precious little time for that as there is.
I say you should have a separate session from SWUGN, but SW should treat you on par with Doyle's activities. I'm involved with both. SWUGN takes time during the scheduled events. If I keep writing I'll change my mind 3 more times. I think SM stuff should be equal with SWUGN. We touch more people more frequently for less money.

That was actually a reference to a Billy Bragg record. An in-joke to myself. I added the link.

Matt,
I just found out about LinkedIn this week. I think it could be a great addition to the technical content. Technology in the marketplace to reach each other, is just as good as the latest software in the office. I vote yes.

I think it would be great, not to mention important. not just the social aspects, but the professional aspects as well. go for it Matt.

Matt: I think if you positioned your talk, as you say, as another way to help users be more productive with SolidWorks it would be a service and a viable presentation. BTW, still interested in a podcast along these very lines if you are. Steve

Great idea. I would be very interested in attending and think it would be a prime opportunity for those not already involved to join the conversation. Excited to see what you decide!
