During a discussion with Jon Hirschtick, while at SolidWorks World 2008 in San Diego, CA, I mentioned I was going to the Santa Monica / Los Angeles / Long Beach areas for a few days after the conference. Upon hearing this, Jon recommended that I stop in and visit the SolidWorks Regional Office in Santa Monica, CA while I was in the area. So I did.
Upon arriving, I identified I was a SolidWorks customer and a SolidWorks blogger, and I would like to learn more about what goes on in one of these offices. A short time later, a Sales Rep took me on a tour of the facility. The Santa Monica office contains over 50 personnel in a space that they may soon be grow out of. While I was there, many of the people were still in San Diego, attending meetings and packing up after the conference.
Many people are aware that these SolidWorks Regional Offices contain Sales Representatives, Technicians, and additional personnel to support local SolidWorks Resellers (VAR’s) in each area, but many of these regional offices also contain personnel who develop and test SolidWorks products. The Santa Monica office contains a team that develops and tests the COSMOS Analysis software that is used in SolidWorks.
Because this visit was unannounced, I would like to thank Vinay Shetty, an Inside Sales Rep, for taking the time to show me around the office and answer a few questions I had.
